Siem Reap-based NGO, Teacher Development Support Organization (TDSO), also known as The Angkor Tree Project and the Phnom Penh Teacher Education College (PTEC), kicked off cooperation where over 200 young students will be coached intensively acquiring basic IT skills.
The students get free access to the online learning platform that TDSO has developed. Courses include the most commonly used Microsoft applications, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams. During the lockdown, students can access the platform from home and work at their own pace. In addition, TDSO has freed up three coaches to guide the trainees throughout the entire process. Support is given online and through the phone.
Students may obtain their certificates of Proficient User within six months or less! Deputy Director of PTEC, Mr. Sam Chanphirum said that “Teachers are crucial and influential in bringing positive changes to society. Educating people to become highly competent teachers will then be a significant contribution to the development of our nation. Moreover, a good understanding of and judicious use of IT tools are critical in a 21st-century classroom”.
Head of Teacher Training Programs at TDSO, Mr. Son Nat, added: “ The COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated why online education should be a vital part of teaching and learning. By integrating technology into existing curricula instead of using it solely as a crisis-management tool, teachers can harness online learning as a powerful educational tool, and this far beyond the current exceptional situation. The effective use of digital learning tools in classrooms increases student engagement, helps teachers improve their lesson plans, and facilitates personalized learning. It also helps students build essential 21st-century skills.”
