National Programme Launching of the Building English Teaching Capacity for Public Primary School Teachers (BETC-PPST)

On 21 November 2025, TDSO launched the Building English Teaching Capacity for Public Primary School Teachers (BETC-PPST) programme at national level.

We welcomed H.E. Dr Khuon Vichheka, Director General of Teacher Education and Development (MoEYS Cambodia), alongside the Director of the Teacher Development Department (នាយកដ្ឋានកិច្ចការវិក្រឹតការ TDD), Deputy Director of Battambang Teacher Education College, officers from Provincial Offices of Education, representatives from Provincial Teacher Training Colleges across ten provinces, and partners from the SEST-Siem Reap Education Support Team.

This programme marks TDSO’s expansion into a new dimension of impact. Alongside our established teacher training work, we are now training teacher trainers across Cambodia’s education system. This dual approach creates lasting change: whilst we continue developing individual teachers’ practice, we simultaneously build the capacity of those who train them.

The programme extends proven methods from Siem Reap to all ten provinces. Working directly with the Ministry of Education and provincial teacher training colleges, we are embedding these approaches into Cambodia’s teacher education infrastructure. The trainers we develop will carry forward these methods in their own provinces, integrating them into standard practice.

This is systemic change: transforming both current teaching practice and the mechanisms through which effective English teaching methods are transmitted throughout Cambodia’s public primary school system.
