An approach can travel. But for it to work, local ownership must lead the way.
TDSO – Teacher Development Support Organisation and the LaoCYDA – Lao Child and Youth Development Association have signed a Partnership Agreement, marking an important milestone in our collaboration to support English teacher development in Lao PDR.
For TDSO, this partnership carries particular meaning. We are proud that our work with public school teachers in Cambodia has inspired LaoCYDA to invest in English Teacher Training in Laos.
However, what has worked in Cambodia cannot simply be copied and transferred to another context.
LaoCYDA fully owns and leads the programme in Laos. Their understanding of the local education system, teachers, schools, and communities will shape how the programme is adapted, implemented, and developed over time.
TDSO’s role is to share what we have learned through our experience in Cambodia and provide the support LaoCYDA needs, from training approaches and resources to capacity building and ongoing technical guidance.
The signing of this Partnership Agreement formalises a collaboration built on a simple principle: share what works, adapt it locally, and put local leadership in the driver’s seat.
We are proud to see TDSO’s approach inspire beyond Cambodia, and we look forward to standing alongside LaoCYDA as they make it their own in Laos.
